STODDART BUILDING, SHEFFIELD HALLAM UNIVERSITY

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

The Stoddart Building at Sheffield Hallam University is home to the
Sheffield Business School and includes facilities for students such as
classrooms, PC laboratories, a lecture theatre, and a large entrance lobby
with an iconic ‘quotation wall’.

The building’s existing roof was made up of a series of pitched, profiled
metal roofs with metal valley gutters, all of which were in need of
refurbishment. The project itself would provide many challenges with the
main one being the location of the Stoddart Building on a major road
running right through the centre of Sheffield.

SIKA LIQUID PLASTICS SOLUTION

Sika partnered with Latchways to provide safe access to each of the roof
areas, whilst also working closely with Everlast’s scaffolding division
to overcome the difficult access and safety issues on this site.
Other health and safety concerns were dealt with by the specification
of a completely cold installed roofing system, as opposed to one
that requires heat or naked flame.Sika Cold Bonded Built-Up Roof

System was installed with mechanically fixed Decotherm insulation,
a self adhered carrier membrane, and a seamless Decothane Delta 25
waterproof membrane – providing guaranteed waterproof protection
for 25 years. Sika metal roof coating – Sikalastic 625 – was also
specified for the low level roof. Both systems allow for ease of detailing
due to their liquid application and the client received a full service
and ‘one-stop-shop’ for all of its roofing requirements. And because
Everlast Waterproofing is a member of the Quality Assured Contractor
Programme, Sheffield Hallam University could be assured that a high
quality application would be achieved with full technical support from
the team.
